Video: https://youtu.be/Xt-yHCN5QS0<br /><h2>About the position</h2><p>A postdoctoral fellowship in representation theory, under the guidance of Sondre Kvamme, is available at the Department of Mathematical Sciences at NTNU starting January 2026. The successful candidate will be offered a 4-year position. The place of employment will be Trondheim, Norway. The project will be conducted in the research group for Algebra at NTNU.</p><br /><h2>About the project </h2><p>The position is part of the project “Monomorphism categories, finite abelian groups, nilpotent linear operators, and the Birkhoff problem” funded through a Researcher Project for Young Talents grant by The Research Council of Norway (FRIPRO). </p><p>A major goal of the project is to develop techniques and tools for studying the Auslander—Reiten theory of monomorphism categories, and to investigate the interactions with other areas of representations theory. The candidate is expected to work on topics related to the project, such as representation theory of monomorphism categories, topological data analysis, and Auslander—Reiten theory.</p><br /><h2>Duties of the position</h2><ul><li>Conducting high quality research, both related to the position and to one’s own research projects. </li><li>Writing and publishing papers in international, peer-reviewed journals.</li><li>Participate in the <a href="https://www.ntnu.edu/imf/research/algebra" rel="nofollow">Algebra research group</a>.</li><li>Participate in and organizing international activities such as conferences and research stays.</li><li>Teaching (clarified and specified in more detail if desired).</li><li>Mentoring students at all levels (bachelor, master and PhD).</li></ul><br /><h2>Required selection criteria</h2><ul><li>You must have completed a doctoral degree in mathematics. PhD students in their last year are also invited to apply. NOTE: Documentation of the obtained doctorate must be presented before you can take up the position. </li><li>Good oral and written skills in English.</li><li>Good communication and collaboration skills and an independent, self-driven working style are essential.</li></ul><p>PLEASE NOTE: For detailed information about what the application must contain, see paragraph “About the application”.</p><p>If you do not already have educational competence that meets the requirements for a position as associate professor in Norway, NTNU will arrange for you to acquire such competence during the employment period.
